Our Core Values
- Rigour
- Kindness
- Creativity
Rigour is the belief in high standards.
Rigour is an attitude of mind that will be shared by all members of the school community. We will expect high standards in all aspects of school life. This will not only be in attitudes to learning, but also in discipline and in the manner in which we interact with each other. Linked with a growth mindset, a rigorous attitude is the best way to ensure that a young person flourishes and fulfils their potential.
To balance these very high expectations, Kindness underpins the school.
Concord College International School will be a warm, calm and friendly community in which values of trust and decency are shared between staff and students in an atmosphere of mutual respect and kindness. Children will also be given the skills to understand their world and the confidence to face future challenges.
Creativity is the element that is easily lost in a school curriculum.
Education is more than just grades. Grades are certainly the ‘passport’ that students need to move on to the next stage of their lives. However, the real art of education is to develop the confidence and self-worth of the young person’. Instilling creative problem solving, moral values and the soft skills of empathy, communication, team-working and time management are the real gift that we can give to the young.
Rigour is the belief in high standards.
It is the expectation shared by all members of staff, students and by parents that each child can be and will be, more than they are. Whether this is academically, behaviourally, in terms of the development of key skills or in social development, we believe that what we are is not yet what we can be.
To balance these very high expectations, Kindness underpins the school.
Kindness means that each member of the community gives respect and is given respect. All students are encouraged to see that they can bring value to the community. This might be through contributions to voluntary service or to the school, but equally by being a decent, thoughtful and positive member of the school community.
Creativity is the element that is easily lost in a school curriculum.
With so much of education driven by examination outcomes, it is easy to lose the joy and therefore the creativity of learning. Tomorrow’s problems will be many and they will not be solved with yesterday’s answers. Children should be encouraged to channel their creativity into their problem solving and into the enquiring way they approach the world. It is in this way that they will find, explore and develop their particular gifts.
