After 2 years of online provision, Concord Summer School was thrilled to be back on campus. Concord College welcomed students aged 10-17 years old, from over 26 countries, for a 2.5-week residential programme that took place in July.
Miss Julie Kaul, Summer School Director, said: “After two years away, it was an absolute delight to welcome students back to Concord College from all around the world and host our Summer School once again on our beautiful campus.”
Students studied either ‘English’ or ‘Science & Maths’ combined with ‘Activities’ or ‘Specialist Science’. Class sizes were kept small ensuring students received substantial support from teaching staff and a personalised learning experience.
“I want to thank all the teachers that made an effort to give us the best time possible during our activities” said a Summer School Student.
Fabulous weather meant we made full use of the 73-acre Concord College site with our afternoon activities. This included opportunities to take part in a range of sports, outdoor activities and creative pursuits such as art, photography, music, movie making, fashion, cooking and drama.
Social activities in the evenings included discos, movie nights, trips off campus to bowling, ice skating and a trampoline park, and a hotly contested talent show. Participating in these extra-curricular sessions is where lasting friendships and happy memories were made.
One student remarked: “I loved it! It was excellent and I had so much fun”, while another said: “I enjoyed that we got to meet new people, and all played together.”
On Wednesday afternoons and over the weekends, students enjoyed a variety of excursions to some of the region’s top tourist attractions. Alton Towers Theme Park, Chester Zoo, the historical town of Shrewsbury, Cadbury World and Cosford RAF Museum were all visited.
Students were split into 4 teams named after local historical figures: Brookes, Darby, Darwin and Webb, and took part in team activities, challenges and competitions throughout the course. It was Darwin who took the honours to lift the Team Trophy at the End of Summer School Awards ceremony.
